Pineapple Red For Home Gardening
In Stock
Description
- Appearance: The plant features long, sword-shaped leaves that can have white, cream, or pink margins. The fruit grows on a thick central stalk and turns a deep pinkish-red to bright red as it develops.
- Edibility: While primarily grown for landscaping and decoration, the fruit is edible. However, it is generally less fleshy, more fibrous, and contains more seeds than the common yellow grocery store pineapple (Ananas comosus). Its flavour is sweet but quite tangy.
- Pink/Ruby Glow Varieties: Do not confuse this with the modern “Pinkglow®” or “Rubyglow™” pineapples. Those are bioengineered commercial hybrid varieties produced by Del Monte that have yellow outer skin but bright pink or deep red inner flesh. The wild Ananas bracteatus, by contrast, has a bright red exterior
